Mobrown

On this track, I combined two popular grooves from the Motown/R&B era. It starts out with a fill used in many songs played even today (ex.1) and goes right into a Motown feel, with all four quarter notes on the snare and some bass drum hits in between (ex. 2). Make sure the bass drum is played in between the snare beats evenly, for a nice smooth feel. This groove, when played correctly, will get everyone up on the dance floor.

I then switch to another fun(ky) groove, which is taken from the James Brown song "Cold Sweat" (ex. 3). This groove has been sampled for use on many hip-hop recordings.

Many R&B tunes contain some sort of breakdown, so I put a couple in at marker 2:05 and 2:50 to break up the sections. The ending (ex. 4) is similar to the one on James Brown's "I Got You (I Feel Good)".
